Photography Workshops
Elevated Experiences
Landscape photography at spectacular Canadian Rockies bucket list locations + the inside track on the less visited local spots
These small group photography workshops offered in Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, Canmore/Kananskis, Yoho & Kootenay National Parks in the Canadian Rockies allow for more time to photograph a variety of locations & light than on a private tour as they are offered as a multi-day experience. This also means you will get both iconic, bucket list locations and random off the grid stops during the workshop, the perfect mix in our opinion.
Consider our workshops if you are looking to take your Canadian Rockies imagery to the next level. We offer well organized, efficient itineraries with your safety and enjoyment top of mind. This is our passion, and always has been since arriving in the Rockies many years ago.
We look forward to connecting you with the Canadian Rockies in a small group setting. If you don’t find what you are looking for below then make sure to check out our full list of photography workshops, tours & adventures here. We encourage you to inquire with us to find a good fit for you.
Professionally Guided - Year Round
We are certified with two professional guiding associations in Canada, the IGA and the ACMG. This means we've thought through every step of our hike, carry multiple emergency response devices & are trained in both Wilderness & Standard First Aid.
A small group setting
Take your photography up a notch among like minded individuals, make new friends, and still have space to work on location. Group sizes are capped between 5-8 participants. We often jump between group and individual time so that you can find your own unique takes.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN
'HELI-CAMPING' PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
Experience a scenic helicopter flight into a remote campsite on this small group photography workshop from which we can easily photograph the jaw dropping turquoise glacial lake studded landscape with 360 degrees of possibilities. Bortle 1 dark skies for impossibly bright stars if clear. Check. Drone photography is also possible being just outside the National Park system.
This trip has light physical requirements with not too much walking as we are dropped right by our campsite. There are no trails in the area however (which is one of its charms) so you should bring some hiking boots as the terrain is uneven.
It is a completely unique Canadian Rockies heli-landscape photography + camping based adventure staying at Michele Lakes where there are no facilities. A true wilderness experience! It is a great way to unplug, get off the grid and connect with the outdoors!
Participants are limited to 40lb of efficiently packed gear due to helicopter weight limitations. A minimum of 3 participants is required for this trip.

Frequently Asked Questions
Some common questions relating to our small group photography workshops are answered below.
Logistics
Check each individual photography workshop to see when our start time will be. We set this, along with our finish time, well in advance so that you can make your travel arrangements. Normally we send out the exact meeting location closer to the date in the pre trip correspondence. It will be at our first shooting location.
The small group photography workshops have only light physical activity and are accessible to most people. Please inquire with us if you would like more details and to check if they are a good fit for you.
All! We enjoy taking out complete beginners and teaching them all about their equipment and nature photography just the same as if we have a more experienced photographer who prefers more location guiding, safety considerations & logistics than photo instruction.
No, although we will provide you with lots of recommendations. Often these photography workshops have a set base of accommodation where we may even have a hotel discount available for you. Contact us to check and for our recommendations.
No, although we recommend car pooling if you don’t have transport. Contact us to inquire about car pooling during the photography workshop that you are interested in.
Yes, if you would like to have a non-photographer tag along then they are welcome to join at no cost.
During the Workshop
Some examples of what you might learn about while enjoying the Rocky Mountain scenery:
– Working in manual mode and fully understanding the exposure triangle, Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO
– How to use filters to best effect – why and when to use them.
– Compositional techniques that you can use to create balance, tension and flow in your images.
– How to handle high dynamic range scenes, and preventing flare.
– The qualities of natural light, how it affects colour, and what to look for.
– Working on the tripod as well as off it, and when and how best to do so in both scenarios.
– Understanding depth of field and how to maximize it.
– Better understanding of your own camera gear and recommendations for making it more user friendly for the type of shooting you do.
– Getting creative, having fun and so much more!
Absolutely! You can let us know what works best for you. Often we simply adjust to you without you even knowing. Sometimes it’s just our local knowledge about what we’re seeing in the landscape that is all that’s needed while we keep you on track with an engaging itinerary and occasional tips or ideas for your photos.
On our small group photography workshops we will always have the opportunity to get breakfast and dinner at a set restaurant. Lunch as well, although we may arrange this at breakfast so that we don’t have to make an additional stop for it. We will let you know during the pre trip correspondence.
Being comfortable so that you can enjoy the experience is paramount. We will provide recommendations on clothing/outerwear depending on the expected conditions for the trip. Winter trips will require a bit more careful planning and you can check out our blog on winter recommendations here.
Policies
Yes, we will bring it for you to sign when we meet on the first day of the photography workshop. A copy will be provided in advance for viewing.
There are no refunds, however we do consider requests on a case by case basis. See our terms & conditions.
Weather
Our small group photography workshops will go ahead regardless of weather conditions – but often with a tweak in plans (if those conditions are a little too exciting) to keep us as safe and comfortable as possible. The Canadian Rockies look interesting in all types of weather and some of the most breathtaking and unique photos come from the worst conditions, such as during a clearing storm! Bring weather appropriate clothing.
Accurately gauging weather is a full time job and luckily we are slightly weather nutty as we view it as a key to both a safe trip and great landscape photography. Check out the current weather for Banff below for fun. If you are keeping an eye on it, always use a variety of sources. The localized weather varies greatly in the mountains and our small group photography workshops always take this into consideration when planning for our time together.
